Women’s Plans Foundation is a charitable trust raising funds for family planning as an integral part of overseas aid programs. Family planning reduces maternal and child mortality and empowers women and families. WPF’s unique contribution is to ensure that family planning is an embodied part of health programs, mainstreaming contraception.
Family planning is the game changer. It improves women’s and infants' health, girls' and women's chances of education and opportunities for economic independence. It underpins population stability, now and into the future. It contributed to sustainability. Contraception is essential for individuals, families, communities and nations to be liberated from poverty.
In developing countries, 225 million women have an unmet need for Family Planning, which causes every year:
74 Million Unplanned Pregnancies, 28 Million Unplanned Births, and 36 Million Abortions
At a cost of less than $16 per person, we could supply a year’s supply of modern contraceptives to 222 million women.
By 2030 we will require 2 planet earths to meet humanity’s demand for renewable resources - but we have only one earth.
